A client’s level of function will influence the way ROM problems are addressed. Some of the many variables that need to be considered when designing a comprehensive plan of care include available strength, ROM, proprioception, sensation, current functional level, prior functional level and cognitive ability.

BALANCE TRAINING

Falling is one of the biggest fears people have and it increase as we age. S4L places balance as a priority in both our warm-ups but also in strength. Most falls are caused by weakness. It is the weakness in our hips that is a major contributor to falls in seniors. We combine balance training and strength training.

Strength training can also reduce the signs and symptoms of many diseases and chronic conditions in the following ways:

  • Arthritis—Reduces pain and stiffness, and increases strength and flexibility.
  • Diabetes—Improves glycemic control.
  • Osteoporosis—Builds bone density and reduces riskfor falls.
  • Heart disease—Reduces cardiovascular risk by improving lipid profile and overall fitness.
  • Obesity—Increases metabolism, which helps burn more calories and helps with long-term weight control.
  • Back pain—Strengthens back and abdominal muscles to reduce stress on the spine.
